History

Argos is one of the leading catalogue retailers in the United Kingdom. Headquartered in Buckinghamshire, Argos uses the digital retail to their advantage and have established themselves in the retail market. Argos was founded by Richard Tompkins in 1973 and was purchased by BAT Industries in 1979. Gus plc bought Argos in 1998 and when Gus split in 2006, Argos became part of Home Retail Group. When Home Retail Group was acquired by Sainsbury’s in 2016, Argos was also acquired by them in a deal that happened in the second half of the year.

Catalogues

With over a thousand and five hundred pages, Argos catalogues have a brief description, photographs, prices and the catalogue numbers of each product.

Argos publishes a January and July addition catalogue every year for summer/spring and winter/autumn seasons respectively.

When new catalogues are released, it comes with seasonal flyers and deals. The previous catalogues are sold at a reduced price once the new catalogues are released.

Touch screen displays are put to use in some of the stores which offer better visibility to all the catalogues products.
